NAME, TITLE of COURSE
TITLE OF YOUR PAPER (you may change this in the future)
Introduction
Tell me what your paper is about. What makes your particular
artwork special? You are making a thesis statement here, such
as“
This Shiva Nataraja is one of the finest examples of its
kind. No other Chola dynasty bronze can compare to this
one
.” If you are comparing that artwork to others, explain
why.
Description of the Art Object
Give me a short summary of what the art object (or art objects)
is (sculpture, painting, etc.), who made it, how big it is, how old
it is, what it is made out of. I want the FORMAL characteristics of
the artwork.
Historical Context
Give me a very brief summary of the historical context of the
artwork (or artworks) based on the sources you provide from the
bibliography.
Conclusion
Now tell me based on the evidence you have presented in your
description and the historical context why your thesis statement
was right. You must back up your thesis statement with evidence
from your description of the art object, as well as its historical
context.
Bibliography
You must provide at least three source of information for your
research, two of which must be print books. All citations must be
in
Chicago Style Format.
For example, when citing a book in the bibliography, follow
this Chicago Style format:
Author, Title, Editors (if you are citing a book that is a
collection of different authors), Volume or Issue (if you are
citing a journal or magazine), Date (when it was printed), Place
(where it was printed), Publisher
